Despite this, It was a really good day.
I even got a surprise package from my Sweet Gramma and my Lovely Mom-Pie!
she's so cute. <3
I sent pictures of my blister to my mom as it developed and healed. Her response was to tell me to get some moleskin (which made me laugh. I just kind of wanted to bug her, i already had neosporin and band-aids, and it was getting less and less painful every day). I told her i had it under control, but she still sent me a box with more neosporin, some generic tinactin (just in case), two sets of dr scholl's, and two packages of moleskin.
"Aw, your mom misses you."
She also wrapped all of this loosely in newspaper. But she's a thoughtful MommyPie, so she included a pristine comic-page, because she knows that's my favorite part.
Today she included two month's worth of comic pages and some civil-rights/sound of music articles for me. I'm delighted. The thought and amusement makes me really really happy. The simplicity of the gesture and the just to-make-you-smileness of it. I'm going to cut out my favorite parts and put them up on my little cork board with the calendar from Destiny (FIREFLY.) and the wedding invitations from Cody and Alisha. My own little love-from-home board. (Plus one napkin from the Warsaw Marriot, because it reminds me that i'm more important than being cheap. it was my port in a really shitty storm, so i will maintain a little love for them.)
Today was a good class day. I'm learning more about the Holocaust/Shoah than i ever dreamed here. But my I was able to talk to my wonderful Professor, and she likes my idea for my research paper for the class. I've decided on "Laughing in the Face of: An Examination of Comedy and Satire as Society's Best Medicine." And she seemed to really like the idea. She gave me some really good suggestions, which was helpful, because all i had currently was "the producers" and the Hitler/Gypsy joke from the beginning of Jakob the Liar.
I bought some new socks here, because a lot of mine are wearing out. One of them is too small. which is unfortunate. they're Lego ones and my shoe kept eating them.
Today I went to Cheder Café, which is a café place with a crapton of Jewish lit, run by the Jewish center in Kazimierz. I sat for a few hours hanging out with my flatmate before we had another class together. There are some really great, out of print books there. There's also books i wouldn't expect, like "women of genisis" by Orson Scott Card (who is a MORMON and is a SCIFI writer... but okay). In keeping with the theme of super fucking grumpy beggars, there was a little old lady that came in babbling at us in Polish, asking for money. And when we told her we didn't speak polish, she got more agitated and made motions towards her mouth for 'eating', so Nicole tried to give her the last 2/3rds of an Obwarzankie(prtexel/bagel) she was eating. The lady got pissed and said " złoty złoty !" and when Nicole said "Nie," she whirled on me. I held up my hands and shook my head "no" and then the lady took Nicole's food, stormed out the door, and slammed it behind her.
We saw her pass two windows. In the first one, she was muttering angrily to herself, but in the second one she was taking a bite of the food, so i guess she wasn't that pissed.
On the way, we stopped by another church. (They litter this place. Seriously )
*deep snort* we keep our saints locked in the closet. they belong there.
In our second class, Reading Anthropology Between the Lines, we were supposed to send in pictures from where we live of food that we don't think other people would eat.
I sent in pictures of the Geoduck.
*evil laughter*
This weekend I'm planning on walking around Krakow and trying to suss out as many museums and enjoy the spring weather. Maybe i'll try to find Nowa Huta? Hopefully it will be clear and i will be able to take pictures of the blooming trees and sit out in the park and whatnot. I love it here.
Next week we have Prague and a few weeks after that I have Scotland/England and a few weeks after that i have Athens, Greece. In between the two, I'm going to squeeze in Romania.
Good day. Great mood. So much love.
